Voice Spinning Mill
vocal workshops
This is a series of workshops dedicated to broadly understood vocal expression, its creative use in speech and singing. The program focuses on basic work on voice emission, its opening, strengthening and integration with the body, as well as enriching the palette of its sound through various musical forms and emotional ease. The teaching methods at the workshops do not require musical education to encourage "non-professionals" to sing. The overriding values are pleasure, authenticity and the social aspect.
I have been co-creating the "Voice Spinning Mill" workshops with Piotr Filonowicz since 2017. I conduct classes in voice emission, vocal expression, singing and Bulgarian traditional songs.
As part of the workshops, we also organize accompanying events, including:
Songs about Love in Times of Crisis
June 23, 2022
A concert by a singing group, summarizing the "Voice Spinning Mill" semester-long vocal workshops.
Nine years – that's how long the human life cycle lasts according to numerology. Through traditional songs from various cultures, we tell the story of a young man whose journey through one of these stages coincides with difficult times. Political, economic and social crises push romantic love to the background and listening to reason rather than the heart becomes necessary. The consequences of such decisions may be practical, but certainly not satisfying. Protective rituals, advice from a caring mother, wisdom from deities embodied in nature – nothing seems to help in a world of disrupted balance. Fortunately, when the ninth year ends, the first year comes again, opening a new cycle.
